Instruction & Support

Zion Benton East is committed to student-centered learning. Our curriculum aims to develop independence and autonomy in our students. Student centered instruction focuses on the skills and practices that enable lifelong learning and independent problem solving.

With revamped and expanded course offerings Zion-Benton East is able to meet the needs of its diverse group of students. Coursework is taught with a variety of teaching methods. These may include project-based learning, collaboration, public speaking and problem solving.

  • Our Freshmen seminar course will help students get acclimated and connected in our building.

  • The Career Exploration course will help students identify and explore future interests.

  • Our Spanish I, II & Heritage Spanish courses help students develop their language skills and knowledge in differentiated ways.

  • Our Earned Honors program allows students to earn weighted course credit upon demonstrating mastery of advanced learning standards. Instead of being designated as an "honors" student at the beginning of a course, students are able to demonstrate mastery during the semester in order to earn their honors credit at the end.

  • Our expanded math offerings include Math 1, 2, 3, Pre-calculus, Calculus, Transitional Math and Dual Credit Quantitative Literacy. Transitional Math is offered in partnership with CLC. Successful completion of Transitional Math guarantees students will be able to enter into credit bearing coursework and will not have to take math placement tests or complete remedial math courses in college.

  • With a change to our schedule ZBE students will now be able to participate in Band & Choir during the school day.

  • Our curriculum is frequently revised and re-invented to ensure cultural relevance, college and career readiness, enhanced achievement and eliminate the opportunity gap.

Zion-Benton East is committed to supporting our students in their instruction. These supports include:

  • 3 weekly student study halls during the Intervention/Enrichment period

    • During this period students are able to access support from teachers, make up or revise assignments, and get ahead on their current course work.

  • New Tech After Hours teacher-led tutoring

  • Advisory curriculum focused on student social-emotional wellbeing, college and career readiness, and academic counseling

  • School counselor, social worker, and MTSS Coordinator
